Feeding Programme

The School has a purpose built kitchen equipped with two very efficient wood burning cookers which use minimal amounts of wood.   Each child is encouraged to bring one stick of wood to school to provide fuel for the cookers.

The cook Siyaine starts work every morning at 5.00am and makes breakfast and lunch for the 230+ pupils some of whom start arriving at around 7.00 a.m. to do their homework.   Breakfast is usually a porridge based on millet flour and lunch is made from beans or rice supplemented with fresh produce from the school garden …kale, cabbage, onions, tomatoes, passion fruit etc.

The feeding programme is very important for the health of the children and the overall success of the school.   It is a major reason why the truancy rate is zero! It is currently costing around £12,600 a year but is worth every penny.
